Common casino poker Terms
Key Card:: A card that gives a player a big draw or makes his hand.
Kick It:: To Raise.

Loose:: Playing Loose is playing more hands and holding onto the hands longer.
Low casino poker:: (AKA Lowball). A casino poker game in which the pot is awarded to the lowest hand.
Lowball:: A type of casino poker game in which the lowest hand wins the whole pot.
Main Pot:: When a player goes All-In, he is in contention for only the Main Pot. Other bets (in excess of what he could match) are placed in a side pot and are contested among the remaining players.
Make a Hand:: To get a hand that has a decent chance at winning the pot.
Maniac:: Term for a player who plays extremely loose and aggressive, often raising with just about any hand.
Mechanic:: Someone who manipulates the cards, such as a cheater who deals cards from the bottom instead of from the top of the deck.
Middle Pair:: The situation in Texas Hold Em in which a player pairs one of his hole cards with the middle of three cards (of different ranks) in the Flop.
Middle Position:: A position between the Early and Late Positions in a round of betting. In online casino poker games, Middle Positions are the 5th, 6th and 7th seats to the left of the dealer button.
Monster:: A hand that is almost certain to win the pot.
Muck:: To put your cards into the pile of discarded cards when folding. Also means the pile of discarded cards by the dealer.
Needles:: A Pair of Aces.
No-Limit:: A game structure in which players can wager any amount (there is no limit on the size of bets and raises). In Table Stakes casino poker games, players are still limited to the amount of money in front of them.
Nursing:: Playing very conservatively, usually with a small stack of chips. (Nursing one's chips).
Nut Flush:: Term used for the best possible Flush in a given hand.
Nut Straight:: The best possible Straight in a given hand.
Nuts:: The best possible hand, most often used in games with a Flop like Texas Hold'em and Omaha casino poker.
Odds:: The ratio of the probability of making a hand to the probability of not making the hand (for example, if you have a 20% chance of making a hand, the odds are 4 to 1 against you).
Off-Suit:: Cards not of the same suit.
Omaha:: A casino poker game similar to Holdem, but using four down cards. A hand is still made using five cards, but exactly two cards from the player's must be used.
Open:: To make the first bet in a round.
Open Pair:: A Pair showing among your up cards (in Seven Card Stud).
Opener:: The player who makes the first bet in the round.
Out:: A live card that will improve your hand, usually referred to a card that will give you a winning hand.
Outdraw:: To make a better hand than another player by drawing better cards.
Outside Straight:: (AKA Open-Ended Straight). Four cards of a Straight (no Aces) which require a card at either end to complete the Straight. For example, 5-6-7-8 is an Outside Straight, while 5-7-8-9 is an Inside Straight.
Overcall:: An additional call after a bet is initially called.
Overcard:: A Pocket card higher than any other card on the Board.
Overpair:: A Pocket Pair higher than any other card on the Board.
Paint:: A Jack, Queen, or King.
Pair:: Two cards of the same rank.
Pass:: To Fold.
Pat:: In Draw casino poker, to Stand Pat is to keep all of your cards (draw none).
Pineapple:: A variant of Hold'em in which each player receives three cards, one of which must be discarded (usually after the Flop is dealt).
Play Back:: To raise a player's opening bet (to Play Back at them).
Play the Board:: You are Playing the Board if your best five card hand uses the five community cards (in games like Texas Hold'em).
Pocket:: The hole cards (dealt face down).
